Daryn Karaitiana


41 Years of age: Singer / Songwriter / Bass Player / Producer who has been working professionally as a musician for the last 20 years. Daryn has used the Bass Guitar as his instrument of choice, but also plays Guitar, Piano, Drums, Harmonica and sings. He has also been honing his craft as a songwriter since his involvement in the industry. He has worked with acts such as Midge Marsden, Hello Sailor, Renee Geyer, Nathan Haines, Emma Paki, Deep Obsession, The Backdoor Blues Band and Pio Terei. He has worked on theatre shows like “The Blues Brothers Revue” & “The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He was inspired to take up music by his father, Wiremu Karaitiana (Billy Kristian).




Wiremu Karaitiana

aka Billy Kristian

Son of Kahu Kuranui Karaitiana, Billy has an extensive background in music and a career spanning 30 years in the industry. Working with acts like Ray Columbus and The Invaders, Max Merritt and The Meteors, Headband and Pacific Eardrum to name but a few. He has worked with Ricky May, Billy T James, Howard Morrison, John Rowles, Shona Lang, The Topp Twins, as well as international acts such as Jon English, The Doobie Brothers, The Goodies, Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Jon Anderson (Yes), Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs, Huey Lewis, Roy Orbison, and the list goes on.
He has provided his musical talent on TV projects such as, When The Haka Became Boogie, The New Zealand Wars, and the Geoff Murphy film "Never Say Die".
He produced reggae band Herbs, Long Ago album and has been consistent in contributing to the NZ music scene over the years both as a player and a producer.
Billy has been and will remain a great ambassador for New Zealand Music.




Kahu Kuranui Karaitiana


Kahu performed in the renowned "Katherine Dunham Show" in 1957, which toured NZ, Australia, The Far East, Japan and the Korean front line during the Korean War.
He then toured with the NZ Concert Party in NZ after the war. Later in1964, Kahu toured NZ and Australia as part of the chorus with the Maori version of "Porgy and Bess" with Inia Te Wiata.
He performed with Tommy Kahi, Peter Logan, Stu Buchannan and Martin Winiata's, "Martin and the Moon Men".
He also played excellent harmonica, sang and played guitar all at once.
